Upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Film - Black Widow (2021)

The upcoming American superhero film Black Widow is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It will be the 24th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, produced by Marvel Studios and released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (MCU). Scarlett Johansson plays as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow opposite Florence Pugh, David Harbour, O-T Fagbenle, William Hurt, Ray Winstone, and Rachel Weisz in the film directed by Cate Shortland from a script by Eric Pearson. Romanoff is on the run and forced to confront her past in this film, which takes place after Captain America: Civil War (2016).

Lionsgate began work on a Black Widow picture in April 2004, with David Hayter attached to script and direct. The project stalled, and by June 2006, Marvel Studios had regained control of the character's cinematic rights. Beginning with Iron Man 2 (2010), Johansson was cast in numerous MCU films and initiated talks with Marvel about a solo feature.Work on the project began in late 2017, and Shortland was hired in 2018. Before Pearson was hired, Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson contributed to the writing. Filming took place in Norway, Budapest, Morocco, Pinewood Studios in England, and Atlanta and Macon, Georgia from May to October 2019.

Black Widow will be released in the United States on July 9, 2021, in cinemas and on Disney+ with Premier Access at the same time. It will be the first film in the MCU's Phase Four, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been postponed three times from its planned May 2020 release date.
